We are always on the look out for fabulous new dining options in Bali, and over the past couple of months we have tried a new restaurant almost every day. Bali is bursting with construction at the moment, and new places are opening up all the time. I'm blown away by the quality and choice we have here - it's an incredible place to live for a food lover like me.
For any readers visiting Bali soon (or anyone planning a trip), here are 8 restaurants that should be on your list to try.
Tukan - Berawa
Over the last couple of months, we keep finding ourselves on Berawa Beach for sunset drinks of an evening. Rosie loves playing in the sand and watching the dogs run on the beach, and we love kicking back and watching the sun sink behind the horizon.
Our favorite beach bar is Tukan, a brand new addition to the neighborhood. As of writing this they don’t have a website, but if you walk North along the beach from Finns you’ll find their stylish white beach shack behind the big swing.
Tukan brings simple, quality food to Berawa Beach at great prices. Their steak is particularly delicious. It’s a bit of a secret destination among residents at the moment, and a place that we find ourselves enjoying at least twice a week.
One Eyed Jack - Berawa
Another one of our latest favorite places for a casual dinner of truly excellent quality is One Eyed Jack. Styled as a modern izakaya and sake bar, their head chef is an alumni of NYC’s Nobu restaurant group.
Their menu is exciting and innovative; a fresh take on Japanese cuisine. It’s also pretty amazing value for families who want to dine between 5pm and 7pm, when children eat for free and cocktails are two for one.
Finns VIP Beach Club - Berawa
We’ve been fans of Finns Beach Club since it opened a couple of years ago, but it’s become soooo popular in recent months that it’s now a little too full-on for our sunset beach nights with Rosie.
So Finns VIP couldn’t have opened at a better time! Situated right next door to the main club, the vibe is more chilled, and the place is less crowded. It’s a great option for anyone that loves Finns, but who prefers a bit more of a relaxing beach club experience.
Tropicola - Seminyak
Another fabulous new beach club to open its doors is Tropicola. Styled with retro flair, and serving a delicious menu of beach club classic dishes - think grilled king prawns or whole fish, guacamole, or tuna tartare - it’s a great place to while away an afternoon in the pool, cocktail in hand.
The vibe is carefree and fun loving, and is perfect for singles, couples, or families. We spent the day here with Rosie and all had a blast, but would equally spend the day here with a group of friends.
Ji Restaurant - Canggu
We’ve been enjoying some of the best sunset cocktails on the rooftop bar at Ji Terrace for a while now, but only recently stayed for dinner at their restaurant. Our meal was fantastic. I have no idea why we waited so long to try their food!
They offer great sushi rolls, and a range of Japanese-inspired small plates and salads. The pork belly we had was especially succulent. It’s a great spot to sit outside, with beautiful ocean views and a sea breeze, while enjoying a leisurely dinner.
Fishbone Local - Canggu
I love Fishone Local’s commitment to serving only fair trade and sustainably sourced seafood, supporting both our oceans and Bali’s fisherman.
Their menu is predominantly seafood and vegetarian dishes, along with a tasty cocktail list and an extensive range of gin. Their restaurant is small and open-air, with a lovely garden. I love the steamed coral trout with mushrooms and ginger, and I’m looking forward to trying their jon dory sandwich.
Beach Garden by In The Raw - Canggu
I’ve been on a mission recently to track down the best salads in Bali - wholesome, interesting and satisfying salads - and I was delighted to discover Beach Garden and their Macro Bowl.
Beach Garden’s menu focuses on offering a range of dishes for all diets; there’s lots of raw, gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan choices, along with seafood and meat options as well. There really is something for everyone, and the ‘beach garden’ setting is relaxed, bohemian, and tropical. It’s a great spot for a healthy lunch.
Como Beach Club - Canggu
One more beach club to add to your list is Como, situated right on Echo Beach with a great view of the surfers. They’ve got a stylish, upscale, modern beach vibe with sun loungers and swinging daybeds by the pool, along with Balinese daybeds and restaurant tables looking out to the sea.
We nibbled on anchovies on toast, and a delicious chorizo and prawn pizza, along with some top quality cocktails. They served my gin with Fever Tree tonic (it’s the first time I’ve seen anything other than Schweppes in Bali) and they made me a killer Espresso Martini.
