We're in the market for some new dining chairs, which we'll be having made in Bali, and I've been having a lot of fun searching for inspiration. We're looking for two distinct sets for our house in France, one for the formal dining room and another for the breakfast table in the kitchen.
I have a bit of a tendency, when it comes to interior design, to get very excited about aesthetics and forget about the reality of our messy lives. We are very messy. Justin, on the other hand, is all about choosing things that are durable and easy to clean. He's been dutifully reminding me that this is a country house which we hope will be overrun with friends and family, and therefore none of the furniture should be 'too precious'. I do agree with him that it's uncomfortable and hard to relax in homes that are too showroom perfect; worrying you might spill red wine on someone's white sofa, or knock over a priceless heirloom. But I can't help it, I am also lured by velvet and soft leathers. It will be interesting to see how we find that middle ground!
