We’ve been busy over the past few weeks, working with our architect on finalizing the floorplans for our house in Bali. We’re almost there, and the process has been equal parts challenging and exciting.
Bali has a tropical climate, so a big focus for us has been to design a home that really blends indoor and outdoor living. Our plot of land isn’t huge, so we’ve needed to plan the garden thoughtfully and creatively.
Years ago, on our first trip to India, Justin and I stayed in a tree house on Palolem Beach in Southern Goa. This memory has always held a special place in our hearts, and looking back it was pretty magical. So we thought it might be a bit of a dream come true to build ourselves a little treehouse in our garden in Bali :-)
We figure that Rosie will love it, and we love the idea of having a romantic place in the trees for cocktail hour. Here are some of the beautiful designs that are inspiring us, if you’d like to see...
In terms of materials, we like the idea of working with reclaimed wood and/or bamboo. IBUKU is a design firm in Bali who are pioneering innovative bamboo architecture, including having worked on Green School. Their Instagram feed @ibukubali is a great source of inspiration for me!
If all goes to plan, the structure will be positioned at the bottom of the garden in the North West corner. This would put the treehouse in front of our master bedroom, so we need to be mindful of its size to make sure it doesn't block any light or views from our room.
